bdht staff have announced they will be taking part in the Papyrus run to raise funds for the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. The team will participate in memory of a former colleague who tragically took their life last year.

Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide is a UK charity dedicated to the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. Suicide is the biggest killer of people aged 35 and under in the UK. Papyrus believes that suicide is preventable and that young people with suicidal thoughts should have access to appropriate support.

The bdht staff have committed to raising funds for Papyrus through their participation in the Papyrus run. The event aims to create awareness of the charity’s suicide prevention work and raise funds to support their initiatives.

“We are proud to be participating in the Papyrus run and raising funds for such a vital charity,” said CEO of bdht, Graeme Anderson. “One of our colleagues tragically took their own life, and we want to do everything we can to prevent this from happening to others.”

Papyrus was founded in 1997 by a group of bereaved parents who had each lost children to suicide. The charity has since grown into a UK-wide organization with offices in various regions across the country. Papyrus’s suicide prevention helpline, HopelineUK, is staffed by trained suicide prevention advisors who provide confidential support to young people and anyone concerned about a young person.

“We hope our participation in the Papyrus run will help to raise awareness of the charity’s work to prevent young suicide,” added Anderson. “By raising funds for Papyrus, we hope to contribute to the charity’s mission of preventing suicide and promoting positive mental health.”

The Papyrus run is open to runners of all levels and will be held on 21st May. Participants have the option to run, jog, or walk the 5K event.
