Social housing provider Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) has generously donated £3,000 to four local organisations to provide vital support to its key services in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Primrose Hospice, which supports patients with life-limiting illnesses, Dodford Children’s Farm charity which provides local children with a countryside experience, and the Basement Project which offers a safe and secure environment for young people under 25 years old have all benefitted from the donation.

In addition, West Mercia Women’s Aid, which provides a 24/7 helpline, refuge and community-based support across the region, also benefitted and will be using the money to support the fantastic work the organisation does in raising awareness and providing vital support to end violence against women and children.

Sue Coleman, chief executive at West Mercia Women’s Aid, said: “As a result of the pandemic and the lockdown restrictions, those in abusive relationships have been exposed to increased risk of violence and trauma with an inevitable impact on demand for our services.

“Our team has been working incredibly hard to help each and every woman who has needed our help at this time, something which we can continue to deliver through the support of others in the local community, such as bdht. We’d like to say an enormous thank you to bdht for its donation and generosity during these challenging times.”

Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht, commented: “The Covid-19 pandemic has had a very real and lasting impact on individuals across the UK and has put an incredible amount of pressure on businesses which often depend on the generosity of others through fundraising activities.

“We are keen to make a positive and lasting contribution to the Bromsgrove community and due to the lockdown restrictions, we unfortunately had to postpone our 1,000 hours community initiative for 2020 but we were still keen to do what we could to support some key local services and businesses impacted by Covid-19.

“We are delighted to support West Mercia Women’s Aid, the Basement Project, Dodford Children’s Farm and Primrose Hospice and look forward to seeing each of the charities and organisations continue their great work in the community.”

bdht is a registered provider of social housing, serving the district of Bromsgrove and surrounding areas. The not-for-profit organisation aims to improve the communities in which it is based, working closely with partners, such as the council, police and residents, to provide secure and comfortable accommodation, and safe and happy neighbourhoods. While also undertaking a wide range of activities under contract to others including homelessness, supporting people, extra care and general estate management.
